Death of A. Van Dyke

Albert Van Dyke one of the pioneer settlers of LeMars, and an honored and respected citizen, passed away at his home on Hubbard street on Tuesday, November 18, shortly after twelve o’clock. His death was due to anberculosis. He had been very sick for the past four weeks and underwent three operations at the hands of skilled surgeons, for relief but without success.

Albert Vandyke was a native of Holland, where he was born sixty-two years ago at a place called Oldenbrouck. When twenty-seven years of age he left his native land to seek his fortunes of the golden shores of America and on his arrival in the United States lived at Patterson, N. J., where he was married to Henrietta Telligan, who with seven children survive him. Two children born to them have died in LeMars.

Mr. and Mrs. Van Dyke were among the hardy Hollanders, who migrated west in early days to Iowa and formed the nourishing colony at Pelia, later coming to Orange City, and for the past twenty-seven years have lived in LeMars.

Mr. Van Dyke was a good upright citizen, who enjoyed the respect and esteem of those among whom he has lived so long.

The funeral was held yesterday afternoon from the Methodist church, the services being conducted by Rev. W. T. Macdonald and Rev. K. B. Wieland and the interment made in the city cemetery. All the children were present at the funeral with the exception of Frank Van Dyke, who is at Los Angeles, California.
