Hinton Progress: Andrew John Casper of Hinton passed away in a Sioux City hospital at 8 o'clock Monday evening, April 25. Mr. Casper was taken suddenly ill shortly after noon Monday and was taken to a hospital for an operation as physicians advised it was necessary to save his life but he died before the operation was performed^ Mr. Casper had been in good health and very active. For the past 6 years, he has been employed as a mail carrier from the post office to the railroad stations here and had performed his duty as usual Monday noon with the mail from the train that arrives at about that time from Chicago, taking suddenly ill soon afterward.
Mr. Casper was born August 25, 1868, at Hazel Green, Wis., and was 80 years and 8 months of age. He came to Plymouth county in 1882. On January 6, 1891, he was united in marriage to Louisa Lebben at Hazel Green, and they resided on a farm in Lincoln township until they retired in 1920 and located in Hinton where they have since resided. Mr. and Mrs. Casper were married 58 years. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1941. They were members of Trinity Lutheran Church in Lincoln township.
Survivors include his wife, Louisa; one son, Arthur of Sioux City, two daughters, Mrs. Herbert Ludwig and Mrs. Frank Richards of Hinton, two brothers, Fred of Marshall, Minn., and John of Sioux City, 19 grandchildren, and 22 great-grandchildren. Two sons and two daughters preceded him in death, also two brothers and six sisters. Funeral services were held last Thursday afternoon at Trinity Lutheran church with Rev. H. D. Stahmer officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Eight grandchildren served as pallbearers.
