THROWN FROM A PONY WHILE RACING IS DASHED AGAINST A TREE

JOHN JASTER IS FATALLY INJURED

Washington Township Youth Succumbs to Injuries After Five Days Suffering, Being Unconscious for Most of the Time

John Jaster, twenty-one years of age, who was thrown from a horse on Sunday, November 23, died from the effects of injuries he received in the fall on Thursday afternoon.

The accident occurred at the farm of Paul Utesch in Washington Township where a number of young people had gathered to visit and enjoy a social time. During the afternoon John Jaster and Rick Webber agreed to try the speed of their respective ponies in a friendly race. While the animals were going at full speed, the pony rode by Jaster suddenly swerved, attempting to turn into the gate of the pasture, and bolted. The rider was thrown with terrific force, his head striking a tree. He was picked up in an unconscious condition. A Merrill doctor was called and found Jaster's condition was very serious. There was a hole in his head and his legs were paralyzed. His back and sides were also hurt. He lingered along the rest of the week. being unconscious nearly all the time and succumbed to his injuries on Thursday afternoon at half-past four.

John Jaster was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Gottlieb Jaster of Washington township and spent all his life in this county. He was a fine young man, popular with his associates and his death under such tragic circumstances is a terrible blow to his parents and family. He leaves to mourn besides his parents, several brothers, and sisters who are Emma, Elaine, Emil, Herman, Alma, Amelia, and Ida.

The funeral was held from the home on Sunday, the services being conducted by Rev. Streipe, pastor of the German Lutheran church in Johnson township. Many neighbors and friends attended to show their respect and extend sympathy to the bereaved family.
