John H. Meyer, who lived northeast of here a number of years on the Gleason farm and later on the Dr. Richey farm, died Friday, February 21, 1913, while on a visit at Pana, 111., after a brief illness of erysipelas and heart trouble. Mr. Meyer sold his farm equipment at auction in January and about two weeks ago left for an extended visit with relatives and friends, in Illinois.

John H. Meyer was born in Germany, September 16, 1852, and came to the United States when sixteen years of age. He married Reka Meyer at Hornsby, 111., February 22, 1880, and they located at Ohlman, 111. In 1902 the family located on a farm northeast of Akron. Mrs. Meyer preceded him in death September 14, 1911. Eleven children were born to them, five sons surviving as follows: Fred and Henry, of Ethan, S. D.; Will and Ed. of Millboro, S. D., and Louis, east of this city. Mr. Meyer was an upright and industrious man, a kind husband and father, and respected by his neighbors and friends. The sons have the sympathy of all who know them in their bereavement.

Henry Meyer arrived here yesterday from Illinois with his father's remains. Funeral services were conducted this (Thursday) afternoon by Rev. R. L. Stuart in the Akron M. E. church. Interment was made beside his wife in Riverside cemetery.
