Meta Margaretha Wilken
Mrs. Meta Margaretha Wilken, 85, longtime Plymouth county resident, died at Floyd Valley hospital Wednesday after an illness of several months. She had been hospitalized for four weeks.
Meta Martfeld was born April 13, 1884, in Jever, Germany. She came to the United States in 1897 to Johnson township near Merrill. Her marriage to Gerd Wilken took place Feb. 27, 1902, in Johnson township. The couple farmed in Preston township for 44 years before retiring to Le Mars in 1945. Mr. Wilken died in 1951. Her parents were the late Frederick and Catherine Siebels Martfeld.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at St. John American Lutheran Church in Le Mars. Rev. Arnold Imbrock and Rev. Paul Tobiason will officiate. Burial will be in St. John Lutheran Cemetery, Preston Township, near Akron under the direction of the Mauer funeral home in Le Mars.
Mrs. Wilken was a member of St. John American Lutheran Church, Le Mars. She was confirmed at Johnson township Lutheran church.
Survivors are two sons, John Wilken, and Arthur Wilken, both of Akron; five daughters, Mrs. George (Katherine) Siebens; Mrs. Alfred (Johanna) Grasz; Mrs. Wendell (Frieda) McAninch and Mrs. Gert (Dena) Jacobs, all of Le Mars and Mrs. Raymond (Minnie) Gabel, Alcester, S. D. There are 17 grandchildren and 45 great-grandchildren and a brother, Fred Martfeld, Le Mars.
She was also preceded in death by two daughters.
