Retired August Kammann was longtime businessman
Retired Le Mars businessman August M. Kammann, who would have celebrated his 75th birthday anniversary today (Thursday), died Wednesday (July 4,1973).
Mr. Kammann was longtime owner and operator of Master Body Rebuilders in Le Mars until his retirement. He died after a long illness at Plymouth Manor Care center where he had resided the last eight months. His home was at 486 First Ave. NE. Funeral services will be Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at St. John's America n Lutheran church with Rev. Arnold Imbrock officiating. Burial will be in Le Mars Memorial Cemetery under the direction of the Mauer funeral home.
August Meinhard Kammann was born July 5, 1898, in Varel, Germany, the son of Wilhelm and Marie (Ludwig) Kammann. He graduated from German trade school in 1916 and came to the United States and the Akron vicinity in the early 1920's. He moved to Le Mars and established his auto body repair shop in 1923.
Leona H. Krause and Mr. Kammann were married Dec. 21,1936, in Le Mars. The longtime Le Mars businessman was a member of St. John's America n Lutheran church, Giblem and Masonic lodges, Order of Eastern Star, Commandry, and the Lions club.
Survivors are four daughters, Donna Mae Howey of Flint, Mich., Mrs. Stanley (Norma) Schmidt of Omaha, Mrs. Jake (Verna) Van Oort of Le Mars and Mrs. James (Edna) Doornink of Kent, Ohio.
He was preceded in death by his wife in 1964, two brothers and a sister.
