Death Claims Aged Citizen
John Beitelspacher was well known and respected in Struble vicinity
Overcome by infirmities of old age and suffering from, the effects of an illness which originated last November, John Beitelspacher, aged 85 years, a resident of Struble vicinity for the past twenty-four years, died at his home in Reading township in Sioux county Friday, July 4.
Mr. Beitelspacher was a native of Russia and was born in a village near Odessa, on October 17, 1844, and was 85 years, 8 months and 17 days old. 1 He grew to manhood in his native village and was united in marriage with Catherine Hamm. Thirty-six years ago. he and his wife left their native land to join relatives, who had come to America and found a home on the western prairies. Mr. and Mrs. Beitelspacher made their home in South Dakota near Lowry for fourteen years and then came to LeMars where they had relatives living in Plymouth and Sioux counties. Mr. Beitelspacher made his home on a farm near Struble. His wife preceded him in death eleven years ago. They were the parents of twelve children, six of whom are living. Mrs. Louise Sett, Mrs. Joseph Beitelspacher and Minnie, residing near Odessa, in Russia, Ray Beitelspacher of reading township, Fred Beitelspacher of Lowry, S.D. and John Beitelspacher of Holven, S.D. and a large number of grandchildren. He also leaves a brother, Edward Beitelspacher, living in Oregon and two sisters Mrs. Sophia Helzer of Tacoma, Wash and Miss Rose Beitelspacher of Aberdeen, S.D.
The funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at Christ church in Grant township, Rev. J. D. Meyer, officiating, and were largely attended by old neighbors and friends. Mr. Beitelspacher was a good citizen and neighbor and highly esteemed by all who knew him.
