Tuesday, October 31, 2017Dora Singer, 91, of Le Mars, died Saturday, Oct. 28, 2017, at Floyd Valley Healthcare in Le Mars.
Dora Margeret Petersen was born Oct. 4, 1926 on the family farm near Merrill, the daughter of Heinrich and Margeret (Michael) Petersen. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, rural Merrill. She attended country school in Plymouth County. Following her schooling, she helped her family on the farm.
She was united in marriage to Donald Lee Singer on April 11, 1951, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Le Mars. They farmed in Union Township for over 40 years. They moved to Le Mars in 1992. Donald died Aug. 2, 1998, in Le Mars.
For the past two years, she has been a resident of Plymouth Manor Care Center in Le Mars.
Dora was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Le Mars where she was active in Sarah Circle, L.W.M.L., and Altar Guild for many years. She was also a member of Farm Bureau and N.I.P.C.O. Dora was very civic minded, supporting many local charities and organizations.
Her favorite time of the year was Christmas, she loved to decorate and make homemade cookies and candy. She also enjoyed entering a sweepstake or two, and most of the time, came out a winner.
Through the years, she enjoyed sewing, needle point, embroidery. She and Don also enjoyed traveling throughout the United States and overseas. She also enjoyed reading and coloring.
But most of all, she loved the time spent with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Survivors include three daughters: Lea Ann (Daniel) Goodrich of Indianola, Sandra Singer of Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Julie Singer of Woonsocket, Rhode Island; two sons: William Singer of Emmetsburg, and Tom (Jean) Singer of Adel; five grandchildren: Jon Hartle, Teisha Hartle, Lawrence Miller III, Leilani Culpepper, and Michael Singer; 3 great grandchildren: Branson Culpepper, Landon Culpepper, and Bernice Jamison-Miller; many nieces and nephews; and her faithful companion, “Snickers."
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Donald; her grandson: Luke Miller; and two sisters: Esther Pauling and Ruth Woockman.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Wednesday at Grace Lutheran Church, L.C.M.S. in Le Mars. The Rev. Tim Geitz will officiate. Burial will follow in Resthaven Memory Gardens in Le Mars. Visitation will be after 4 p.m., today (Tuesday), with the family present after 5 p.m., and a prayer service at 7 p.m., all at Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Le Mars. Visitation will resume from 9:30 a.m. until service time on Wednesday at the church.
