Andrew Andersen was born January 24, 1868, in Borrholm, Denmark . He came to the United States at the age of twenty-three , settling in the Sioux City area, where he followed his trade as a blacksmith. Mr. Andersen soon left the blacksmith trade and took up farming in Johnson township, Plymouth county. Iowa. It was there he married Clara E. Heeren.

Mr. Andersen farmed in the Vaudeville community, in Johnson township, forty-three years. During this period he was active in church work, serving in the capacity of Sunday school superintendent and teacher in what is now the Plymouth Presbyterian church, and in later years the Evangelical United Brethren church, Adaville.

In 1944 Mr. and Mrs. Andersen retired from farming and moved to Akron to make their home where he passed away after an extended illness on Monday, October 30, 1950; at the age of 82 years, 9 months and 6 days. The passing of this kindly, honorable and upright citizen brings regret to a wide circle of friends.

Surviving are his wife, Clara; a daughter, Mrs. Bertha C. Prestage, of Sioux City; three sons, Clarence and Calvin, of Akron, and Wayne, of Madison, Wis.; ten grandchildren and one great-grandchild. A son, Oscar, preceded him in death.

Funeral services were held at 2:30 p. m. last Thursday at the Adaville Evangelical United Brethren church, conducted by Rev. Virgil E. Shickell. A male quartet, comprised of Clark Tindall, Jorville Stinton, Joe Johnson and Merlin Brown, sang, with accompaniment by Mrs. Kenneth Brown. The pallbearers were Russell Clark, Kenneth Nygaard, Harry Nelson, Herbert Raby, Fred Lucken and Stanley King.

Interment was in the Plymouth Presbyterian cemetery.
