Edward Eckhoff, 91, of Le Mars, Iowa passed away Sunday, May 1, 2016 at Floyd Valley Health Care in Le Mars.

A Celebration of Life Service will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, May 5, 2016 at Grace Lutheran Church with Reverend Tim Geitz officiating. Military Honors will be provided by the Wasmer American Legion Post #241 of Le Mars. Inurnment will be at St. John''s Lutheran Cemetery, Charter Oak, Iowa. Visitation with the family present will be after 5:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 4, 2016 at the Carlsen Funeral Home in Le Mars, Iowa. Visitation will continue Thursday morning at the church from 9:30 a.m. until service time. Expressions of sympathy can be extended to the family through www.carlsenfuneralhome.com. Casket bearers will be Randy Kuhlmann, Donald Stender, Jerry Stender, Bobby Stender, Jon and Leslie Eckhoff, Steen and Sarah Jergensen, Joshua and Carrie Eckhoff, Rachel Petterson, Alyssa Petterson, and Marques and Krista Eckhoff, and Clayton and Megan Wulf.

Edward Frederick Eckhoff was born August 7, 1924 on the family farm near Charter Oak, Iowa to Edward P. and Edna (Sievers) Eckhoff. He attended high school at Charter Oak where he excelled in sports. While in high school, Ed was scouted by the Pittsburg Pirates as a catcher. Following high school, Ed joined the United States Army on October 9, 1942. He was assigned to the 101st Airborne as a paratrooper. He was involved with the "Battle of the Bulge" in the Ardennes Forrest Region of Belgium, France and Luxemburg and was involved with the "Siege of Bastogne" in Bastogne, Belgium. Following his discharge from the Army on November 8, 1945, Ed returned back to Iowa. Ed was united in marriage to Florence Louisa Stender on October 4, 1947 at St. Luke''s Lutheran Church in Omaha, Nebraska. Ed''s career with Iowa Public Service (Mid America Energy) brought the family to several communities in Western Iowa before settling in Le Mars in 1961. Ed started his career as a lineman and worked several years as a construction foreman before retiring in 1986. Ed and Florence enjoyed spending summers at their cabin near Park Rapids, Minnesota. He enjoyed the outdoors spending time golfing and fishing.

Survivors include three children: Neil Eckhoff and his wife Mary of Arvada, Colorado and their children Jon (Leslie), Sarah (Steen) Jergensen, and Joshua (Carrie), Nancy Petterson and her husband Jeff of Jasper, Minnesota and their children Rachel and Alyssa, and Perry Eckhoff and his wife Joann of Tea, South Dakota and their children Marques (Krista) and Megan (Clayton) Wulf; 9 great grandchildren; his siblings: Arlene Kennedy of Roseburg, OR, Norlene Kuhlmann of Denison, IA, Marilyn Johnson of Thousand Oaks, CA, and Al (Linda) Eckhoff of Henderson, NV; 2 sisters-in-law, Letty Stender of Westside, Iowa and Stella Stender of Omaha, Nebraska; and several nieces and nephews.

Ed was preceded in death by his parents, Edward P. and Edna (Sievers) Eckhoff; his wife Florence who passed away on September 10, 2013; and two brothers, Leonard and LeRoy Eckhoff.
