September 17, 1931 - April 30, 2017

Marlys Tiesler, 85, of Hinton, Iowa passed away Sunday, April 30, 2017 at Plymouth Manor Care Center in Le Mars, Iowa.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, May 4, 2017 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, E.L.C.A. in Le Mars. Reverend Dr. Jean Ziettlow and Reverend Chris Meier will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery in Sioux City, Iowa. Visitation with the family present will be after 4:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 3, 2017, with a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m., all at Rexwinkel-Carlsen Funeral Home in Le Mars. Visitation will resume from 10:00 a.m. until service time on Thursday at the church. Expressions of sympathy can be extended to the family through www.rexwinkelfh.com.

Marlys LaVonne Witt was born September 17, 1931 on the family farm near Akron, Iowa, the daughter of Alfred and Maidie (Schmidt) Witt. She was baptized at Trinity Lutheran Church in Akron. She attended country school near Akron. After her father’s sudden passing, she and her family moved to Le Mars in 1943. She attended school in Le Mars and graduated from Central High School in 1951. She was confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Le Mars. Following high school, she moved to Minneapolis and went to work for Postal Finance. Later, she moved to Sioux City and continued with the company.

She was united in marriage to Albert Tiesler on April 24, 1953 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Le Mars. They made their home on a farm in Perry Township, west of Hinton, Iowa where farmed and raised chickens and sold eggs for many years. Albert passed away on November 10, 1998. Marlys continued to live on the farm until January of 2017, when she became a resident of Plymouth Manor Care Center in Le Mars.

She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Le Mars where she sang in the church choir and taught Sunday school. She enjoyed having coffee with her friends in Hinton and helping the ladies of the Hinton United Methodist Church make peanut brittle ever Christmas. She and Albert enjoyed their trips to Branson, Missouri. But most of all, she loved the times spent with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Survivors include her two sons: Ken (Donna) Tiesler of Merrill, IA, and Scott Tiesler of Hinton, IA; her grandchildren and great grandchildren: Elizabeth (Kevin) Bates of Le Mars, IA and their children: Matthew, twins Brevin and Connor, Kylie, and Caleb; and Stacy Tiesler of Le Mars, IA; a sister: Dorothy Luschen of Le Mars, IA; and her nieces and nephew: Connie Walstrom of Hinton, IA, Sandra Muecke of Hinton, IA, Keith Luschen of Sioux Falls, SD, and Renae Buss of Le Mars, IA.

She was preceded in death by her parents: Alfred and Maidie Witt; her husband, Albert Tiesler; her father and mother in law: Fred and Ella Tiesler; and her in laws: John Luschen Jr., Robert (Ethel) Tiesler, and Richard (Dorothy) Krause.
