Tommy Nystrup, 86, of Akron, Iowa passed away Tuesday, January 6, 2015 at a hospice house in Edinburg, Texas following a lengthy illness.

Per his wishes, his body has been cremated and there will be no local services in Akron. There will be a Celebration of Life Service at a later date at the Citrus Valley RV Park in McAllen, Texas. Arrangements are with the Carlsen Funeral Home – Schroeder Chapel in Akron.

Tommy was born February 8, 1928 on farm near Bronson, Iowa, the son of Chris and Zelpha (Galland) Nystrup. He graduated from Climbing Hill School in 1945.

He was united in marriage to Irene Ostermeyer on December 8, 1948 in Lawton, Iowa. He farmed near Akron all of his life. Irene passed away February 15, 2002.

He was united in marriage to Clarice Fodness Miller on November 27, 2004 in Akron.

Through the years, farming was Tommy’s life. He also enjoyed fishing, traveling, and wintering in Texas. He will be greatly missed.

Survivors include his wife, Clarice of Akron; a son: Chris (Nancy) Nystrup of Akron; a daughter: April (Alan) Sommervold of Akron; a step son: Troy (Diane) Fodness of Lansing, KS; 5 grandchildren: Tom (Mackenzie) Nystrup, Daryl (Laura) Nystrup, Jorgen Nystrup, Tara (Greg) Pirak, and Amber (Jim) Saloum; 2 step grandchildren: Nicholas Fodness and Andrew Fodness; and 5 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife: Irene Nystrup; a sister: Alice Nystrup; and a brother: Wayne Stekelenburg.
