LE MARS, Iowa - Lloyd E. Laughton, 98, of Le Mars died Thursday, March 4, 1999, at the Plymouth Manor Care Center in Le Mars.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars with the Rev. Lynn Potter of First United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. Monday, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the funeral home.
Mr. Laughton was born Feb. 19, 1901, in rural Plymouth County, Iowa, the son of George and Mary (Hayden) Laughton. He was raised on a farm north of Le Mars and attended country school at Elgin #4.
He married Ethel Moir on Dec. 14, 1932, at Canton, S.D. The couple farmed north of Le Mars for many years. She died Aug. 5, 1985. He continued to live on the farm until moving to the Plymouth Manor Care Center in July of 1989.
Survivors include a son and his wife, George and Mary Laughton of Le Mars; five daughters, Mary Bangs of Colorado Springs, Colo., Joyce Willer of Le Mars, Helen and her husband, Chuck Driggs of Le Mars, Mildred and her husband, Perry Springer of Urbandale, Iowa, and Lois and her husband, Ray Trusheim of Toledo, Iowa; 19 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a twin brother, Floyd and brother, Harry; two sisters, Leora Laughton and Jessie Pech; and a son-in-law, Chuck Willer.
