Farley Houx Peterson was born June 13, 1919 at home in Sioux City, Iowa to John C. and Leah Ella (Glasgow) Peterson. He attended school in Sioux City and graduated from East High School with the Class of 1938. Farley was united in marriage to Charlotte Albert on April 12, 1942 in Le Mars. He served his country in the United States Army from July of 1942 to November of 1945. He had been stationed in Dakar, Senegal and Tripoli, Lybia for deployments. Following Farley's discharge from the service, he returned to farm in Fredonia Township, rural Le Mars. Farley and Charlotte farmed until 1980 when they retired and continued to live on the farm until moving to Le Mars in 1983. Farley enjoyed working on his tractors; sometimes rebuilding the engines over the winter months to prepare for the following years' work. After moving to town, he enjoyed working in his large garden and giving away fresh produce to friends and family. He also enjoyed many woodworking projects and shared them with family and friends. In later years, Farley enjoyed traveling to visit family. Farley had been a longtime member of the First Baptist Church, having served the church in several capacities including Trustee and Deacon. He was always willing to volunteer and help out wherever needed at church. His faith was very important to him which helped him to lead a very non-judgmental life. He will be remembered by family and friends as a very generous and gracious man. He loved to share his sense of humor and leave everyone with a smile.
