Charles “Chuck” Driggs, 78, of Le Mars, Iowa passed away Thursday, February 16, 2017 at Plymouth Manor Care Center in Le Mars.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, February 20, 2017 at Rexwinkel-Carlsen Funeral Home in Le Mars. Reverend Dr. Michel Lundula of the United Methodist Church in Le Mars will officiate. Burial will follow in Memorial Cemetery in Le Mars. Visitation with the family present will be after 5:00 p.m. Sunday, February 19, 2017 with a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m., all at the funeral home. Visitation will resume from 9:30 a.m. until service time on Monday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to Alzheimer’s Association, Parkinson’s Disease Foundation, and/or Le Mars Little League or a charity of your choice in c/o the family.
Charles Justin Driggs was born July 31, 1938 on a farm in Cherokee County, Iowa, the son of Clyde and Vivian (Peck) Driggs. He attended school in Cherokee County and graduated from Quimby Consolidated. Following high school, he attended college and graduated from Westmar College in Le Mars.
He was united in marriage to Helen Laughton on November 27, 1959 at Seney United Methodist Church in Seney, Iowa.
Early on, Chuck was a college vocational instructor in Mechanicsville, Iowa and later in Sheldon, Iowa before settling in Le Mars. After moving back to Le Mars, he worked in the auto parts business, working several car dealerships and auto parts store in Le Mars and Sioux City until his retirement. Helen passed away June 17, 2001 in Orange City, Iowa. On January 15, 2014, he became a resident of Plymouth Manor Care Center due to his health.
Through the years, Chuck enjoyed flying r/c planes and was a member of the “Golden Kernels” and “Wings” flying clubs. He also enjoyed collecting and assembling model cars. He also enjoyed watching sports on television along with the History and Military channels. Chuck had quite the “sweet tooth” for chocolate and Pepsi cola. But most of all, he loved the times spent with his family, especially his grandchildren. He enjoyed watching them in all of their activities.
Survivors include his four children: Kim (Steve) Kots of Corpus Christi, TX, Jeff (Mary) Driggs of Le Mars, IA, Kari (Monty) Cook of DeKalb, MO, and Curt Driggs of Le Mars, IA; 8 grandchildren: Marty Miller, Rob (Lindsay) Arens, Jeremy Kots, Amanda Arens (fiancé, Andy Krohn), Emili (Tom) Miller, Corey (Megan) Arens, Katie Driggs, and Keegan Driggs; 9 great grandchildren; a brother: Doug (Diane) Driggs of Cherokee, IA; his step brother: Neil (Anne Marie) Lickiss of Cherokee, IA; his step sister in law: Charlene Lickiss of Aurelia, IA; 3 sisters in law: Mary Bangs of Colorado, Joyce Willer of Le Mars, and Lois (Ray) Trusheim of Toledo, IA; two brothers in law: George (Mary) Laughton of Le Mars and Perry Springer of Clive, IA; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Helen; his step brother: Larry Lickiss; a sister in law: Mildred Springer; and a brother in law: Charles Willer.
