Donald Neunaber, age 83, of Akron, Iowa passed away at his home near Akron.

Memorial services for Don and his wife, Esther will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 19, 2014 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Akron, Iowa. Reverend Dr. Dave Christenson will officiate. Military honors for Don will be conducted by the Hoschler American Legion Post 186 of Akron. Visitation with the family present will be from 10:00 a.m. until service time on Saturday at the church and following the service during a time of fellowship at St. Patrick''s Parish Hall in Akron.

Donald John Neunaber was born December 15, 1930 on the family farm near Akron, Iowa, the son of John and Mae (Rozell) Neunaber. Don attended country school and later graduated from high school in Akron. Don enlisted in the United States Army. He served his country during the Korean Conflict. Following his honorable discharge, he lived in central Iowa while farming with his cousins. After his father passed away, Don moved back to Akron to farm at the family homestead. Don was united in marriage to Esther Hitzemann on August 16, 1964 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Akron. Don and Esther farmed near Akron their entire married life, growing crops and raising livestock. Don was proud of the fact that he was a pioneer in bringing hog confinements to the area. After retiring, Don and Esther continued to live on the farm. Don was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Akron. He held different offices in the church and served on church council. He was also an active member of the Hoschler American Legion Post 186 of Akron where Don was Past Commander. Don also served on many local and county wide boards and committees through the years. Don was a F.F.A. leader for many years in Akron. He was active in Plymouth County Farm Bureau. Don and Esther enjoyed their times at the Akron Senior Center. Through the years, he and Esther enjoyed traveling locally and abroad. They loved to play cards, especially pinochle with their family. They will be greatly missed.

Survivors include a daughter: Lisa (Brent) Harmes of Lakewood, CO; a son: Jon Neunaber of Akron, IA; a brother: Marvin Neunaber of Beatrice, NE; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister: Joyce (Daryl) Port; and sister in law: Lori Neunaber.

Memorials can be made in Don and Esther''s name for a scholarship to be established for F.F.A. in Akron.
