Esther Neunaber, age 80, of Akron, Iowa passed away at her home near Akron.

Memorial services for Esther and her husband, Don will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 19, 2014 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Akron, Iowa. Reverend Dr. Dave Christenson will officiate. Military honors for Don will be conducted by the Hoschler American Legion Post 186 of Akron. Visitation with the family present will be from 10:00 a.m. until service time on Saturday at the church and following the service during a time of fellowship at St. Patrick''s Parish Hall in Akron.

Esther Grace Hitzemann was born November 7, 1933 on the family farm near Akron, Iowa, the daughter of Henry and Helen "Matie" (Von Hagel) Hitzemann. She attended country school and later graduated from high school in Akron. Early on, Esther worked as a teller for a local bank in Akron. Esther was united in marriage to Donald Neunaber on August 16, 1964 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Akron. Esther and Don farmed near Akron their entire married life, growing crops and raising livestock. After retiring, Esther and Don continued to live on the farm. Esther was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Akron. She served as church treasurer for many years, played the organ, and sang in the church choir. Esther was also a member of the Hoschler American Legion Auxiliary for many years. Esther and Don enjoyed their times at the Akron Senior Center. Through the years, she and Don enjoyed traveling locally and abroad. They loved to play cards, especially pinochle with their family. Esther also enjoyed scrapbooking all the family pictures and events. They will be greatly missed.

Survivors include a daughter: Lisa (Brent) Harmes of Lakewood, CO; a son: Jon Neunaber of Akron, IA; two brothers: Marvin (Helen) Hitzemann of Akron, IA, and Arden (Katie) Hitzemann of Canton, SD; a sister in law: Marilyn Hitzemann of Akron, IA; a brother in law: Lester Meske of Clear Lake, IA; and several nieces and nephews

She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers: Arnold, Robert, George, and a brother in infancy; and a sister: Helen Meske.

Memorials can be made in Esther and Don''s name for a scholarship to be established for F.F.A. in Akron.
