AKRON, Iowa -- Lena M. Weyen, 92, of Akron died Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2004, at Hillcrest Health Care Center in Hawarden, Iowa.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Akron, with the Rev. Jean Morse officiating. Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 7 to 8 p.m., at Schroeder Funeral Home in Akron.

Lena M. Weyen was born Feb. 8, 1912, in rural Hawarden, the daughter of Dave and Anna (Stahlbaum) Vander Ham. She attended a country school until the fifth grade, when she was needed to work around the farm.

She married Herman F. Weyen on Dec. 29, 1929, in Elk Point, S.D. He preceded her in death on Aug. 26, 1975. She was employed as a house cleaner and took in washing.

She was a member of St. Matthew's Lutheran Church in Chatsworth, Iowa, then transferred to Trinity Lutheran Church in Akron. She also was a member of the Eagles and the Ladies Aid. In her free time, she loved bingo, playing cards and dancing.

She is survived by two daughters and their husbands, Betty and Lloyd Meyer of Akron and Dorothy and Jack De Vos of Sioux Center, Iowa; two sons and their wives, Ray and Helen Weyen of Sioux Center and Dean and Pat Weyen of Akron; 12 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Rosie and Annie; a brother, Bill; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; an infant son; two brothers, Fred and Herman; and three sisters, Mary, Katie and Minnie.

Pallbearers will be Scott Weyen, Rick Weyen, Mark Weyen, Melvin Hebner, Mike De Vos and Jeremy McPherson.
