LE MARS, Iowa -- Judy Ruchti, 64, of Le Mars passed away Monday, Nov. 23, 2009, at Floyd Valley Hospital in Le Mars.

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at the Presbyterian United Church of Christ, with the Rev. Jan Christensen officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be after 3 p.m. Friday at the Carlsen Funeral Home in Le Mars, with the family present to greet friends after 5:30 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m.

Visitation will continue Saturday morning from 9 a.m. until service time. Expressions of sympathy can be extended to the family through carlsenfuneralhome.com.

Judy Karlene Ritchie was born Jan. 21, 1945, to Omer and Lura (Hatton) Ritchie at Albaton, Iowa. She was raised on a farm South of Hornick, Iowa. Judy attended grade school at the Hornick and Holly Springs School. She graduated from Westwood High School at Sloan, Iowa, in 1963. As a young woman, Judy worked for Robb-Ross Foods in Sioux City.

Judy was united in marriage to Larry D. Ruchti on Sept. 21, 1963, at Hornick, Iowa. The couple was blessed with a daughter, Susan. Judy and Larry moved to Le Mars in 1964. Larry was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1966. In 1967, Larry was stationed at Lawton, Okla., and Judy worked at a grocery store in Lawton. In 1968, when Larry was stationed in Vietnam, Judy returned to Le Mars and worked for Moore Lumber Company for 10 years. She then began her 31-year career with Killeas Investments. Judy had also worked part-time at Archie's Waeside from 1981 to 1995.

Judy and Larry are members of the Presbyterian United Church of Christ, where Judy had served as trustee and financial secretary for a number of years. She had also served as a Girl Scout leader when Susan was younger. Judy enjoyed collecting coffee mugs throughout the years and bowling league.

Survivors include her husband, Larry Ruchti of Le Mars; a daughter, Susan Ruchti and her daughter, Tiranee of Le Mars; three brothers, Darrell Ritchie and his wife, Betty of Sioux City, Paul Ritchie and his wife, Ellen of Smithland, Iowa, J.W. Ritchie and his wife, Joyce of West Des Moines, Iowa; a brother-in-law, Dale Tracey of Sioux City; a stepsister, Sharon Rokes and her husband, Chuck of Washburn, Iowa; sisters-in-law, Donna Myers of Mapleton, Iowa, Deanna Lawson and her husband, Albert of Mapleton, Debra Ruchti of Onawa, Iowa; brothers-in-law, Dennis Ruchti of Aransas Pass, Texas, Duane Ruchti of Mapleton, Iowa, Mark Ruchti of Ottawa, Kan., Bruce Ruchti of Mapleton, and Jeffery Ruchti and his wife, Candi of Swisshome, Ore.; a stepsister-in-law, Elaine Jahde of Sioux Center, Iowa; several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Judy was preceded in death by her parents, Omer and Lura (Hatton) Ritchie; her stepmother, Francis Ritchie; a sister, Lois Tracey; mother and father-in-law, Cornelius and Meta Ruchti; a sister-in-law, Cheryl Ruchti; two brothers-in-law, Leon Ruchti and Lloyd Myers; and a stepbrother, Richard Jahde.

Pallbearers will be Tom Baack, Jack Hansen, Wayne Thieman, Paul Grant, Denny Harms and Jeff Collins.
