LE MARS, Iowa -- Donald C. Dreckman, 60, of Le Mars died Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2002, at a Sioux City hospital as a result of a massive stroke suffered on Sept. 29, 2002.
Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Le Mars, with the Rev. Andrew Hoffman officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Le Mars, with military rites conducted by American Legion Wasmer Post 241. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. Friday, with a Scriptural wake service at 7:30 p.m., at Feuerstein Funeral Home in Le Mars.
Donald Charles Dreckman was born Nov. 4, 1941, on the family farm east of Le Mars, the son of Leo C. and Anna (Holzman) Dreckman. He was a Plymouth County native and lifelong resident. He grew up near Le Mars and graduated from Gehlen Catholic High School in 1959. He served four years in the Iowa National Guard.
He farmed most of his life east of Le Mars and raised livestock. At the time of his death, he was employed with Wells Blue Bunny in Le Mars.
He was an active member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, where he had served his parish family as an usher for many years. He also was a member of the American Legion Wasmer Post 241. He enjoyed bowling and being with his family friends.
Survivors include three sisters, Esther Bunkers of Remsen, Iowa, Eileen "Eny" Pottebaum of Rock Rapids, Iowa, and Mary Ann and her husband, Jim Arens, of Le Mars; two brothers, Father Phil Dreckman, S.J., of St. Paul, Minn., and Larry Dreckman and his wife, Diane, of Le Mars; and 30 nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Sister Peggy Dreckman, C.H.M.; a brother-in-law, Vern Bunkers; and eight nieces and nephew.
