Gustave Schoenrock Succumbs to Old Age

Gustave Schoenrock, 89, retired farmer and early settler in Plymouth County, died Sunday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Herman Ideker, in Lincoln Township where he had been living recently. Death was due to old age.

Mr. Schoenrock during the years of his active life was a successful farmer in Stanton and Lincoln Townships before retiring to make his home in Le Mars in 1915.

Gustave Schoenrock was born in the province of Brandenberg, Germany, August 1, 1850, and when a youth of 18 came to America to seek fortune and opportunities which were lacking in his native place.

On coming to America he settled in Ohio where he worked for nine years and then came to Le Mars where he engaged in farming and established his home. While living in Ohio he was married to Wilhelmina Eppling, who died in Le Mars in 1920.

He is survived by four sons and two daughters: Henry Schoenrock and Charles Schoenrock of Lincoln Township; Leonard Schoenrock of Stanton Township; Herman Schoenrock of Hawarden, Iowa; Mrs. Herman Ideker of Lincoln Township; and Mrs. Henry Grimjes of this city. The are twenty grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren.

Mr. Schoenrock was one of the sturdy pioneers who helped build up the community where he found advantages in a newly opening territory denied him in his native country. He was an industrious farmer, a helpful neighbor, a good citizen and a supporter of church and community projects.

The funeral will be held Wednesday afternoon at 1 p.m. from the Grimjes residence with services at 1:30 in St. John’s Lutheran Church, Rev. L. L. Belk officiating. Interment will be made in the Lincoln Township Cemetery.
