FALL IS FATAL TO AKRON RESIDENT LAST WEDNESDAY

Rites Are Held Here On Saturday For Andrew Jurgensen

A sad and tragic end to the life of a well-known and respected local resident, Andrew L. Jurgensen, came last Wednesday afternoon, September 25, when he suddenly lost his balance and fell backward on the sidewalk in front of the Akron Variety store, striking the back of his head on the cement.

Bystanders came quickly to his relief and he was taken to the Akron Hospital. There his condition was found so critical that his removal to a Sioux City hospital was decided upon, but he had passed away before his destination.

Mr. Jurgensen had been afflicted with an arthritic ailment for some time and, with considerable difficulty, walked along our streets with the aid of a cane. His jovial disposition and friendly personality will be sincerely missed in the downtown section.

Andrew Leander Jurgensen, son of August and Ida Jurgensen, was born May 25, 1892, on a farm in Union County, S. D., where he grew to manhood. He married Anna Martsfeld here on November 6, 1912. He farmed near Hudson, S.D., Sioux Falls and Akron until retiring in 1957. Three sons and three daughters were born to them.

His wife preceded him in death in 1952.

He was baptized in St. John Lutheran Church, Akron, and confirmed in Immanuel Lutheran Church here.

Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Lavine Cramett of Boulder, Colo., and Mrs. Ellen Tabbert and Miss Janice Jurgensen, both of Sioux Falls; three sons, Ardal of Akron, Orian of Sioux Falls and Lowell of Beresford, S. D.; two sisters, and two brothers, Mrs. Anna Fredrickson, Mrs. Minnie Clark, Charles and William, all of Akron; 14 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
