The remains of John G. Peters, a former resident of Plymouth County, Iowa, who died May 1, 1929, at O’Kreek, Millette County, S. D., were brought here for interment and the funeral was held Sunday afternoon in Trinity Lutheran Church, conducted by Rev. F. A. Meske, with a large number of relatives and friends in attendance. The funeral was held in the church at 2 p.m., following a brief service at the Klauer undertaking parlors.

The pallbearers were his sons, Charles and John Peters; his sons-in-law, Harm Heeren and Jack Powers, and his nephews, Jake Euken and Emil Witt. Interment was in Riverside Cemetery.

John G. Peters was born November 23, 1857, in Ostfriesland, Germany, and was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church. In 1883 when he was 26 years old, he came to America and located near Le Mars, Iowa, where he worked on a farm. In 1885 he was united in holy wedlock with Miss Mathilda Witt, and this union was blessed with two sons and three daughters.

In 1911 he and his family moved to Philip, S. D., and the following year located in Mellette County, near White River, S. D., where he took up a homestead. In 1925 he opened a restaurant and billiard parlor, and there he spent the remainder of his life.

On Saturday, April 27, he was taken sick with pneumonia, and on Wednesday, May 1, 1929, he passed away at the age of 71 years, 5 months and 8 days.

He leaves to mourn his departure his devoted wife and five children—Charlie J. Peters, of Hawarden, Ia.; Lillian Mathieson, of Murdo, S.D.; Emma Heeren, of Le Mars, Ia.; Rose Powers, of White River, S. D., and John Peters, of Clearfield, S. D., also 19 grandchildren, one brother, two sisters, and a host of friends, as Mr. Peters was jovial and whole-souled nature. The bereaved relatives have the sympathy of all who know them.

All the children and families were present at the funeral services here, except Mr. Mathieson, of Murdo.
