Well Known Pioneer Answers Final Summons

Following a severe illness lasting four weeks, James B. Redmond, pioneer resident of Plymouth County, died at his home, 417 Central Avenue NW, Friday, May 1. Mr. Redmond had been in failing health the past year suffering from hardening of the arteries and a few weeks ago his condition became worse and he sank rapidly.

Mr. Redmond, who was 70 years of age, was a resident of this vicinity since early manhood, coming to Le Mars when a youth, fifty-two years ago, and making his home here ever since and was widely known in Plymouth County.

James B. Redmond was born August 16, 1860, at Platteville, Wis., where he grew up, received his early schooling and assisted his father in the work on the farm the family operated near that place.

His parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Redmond came to Le Mars I 1878, and located on a farm. Mr. Redmond joined them a year later, coming here in 1878.

Soon after their arrival in Plymouth County the Redmond family established a permanent home in Grant Township and farmed successfully for many years.

Mr. Redmond, in his younger days, assisted his father on the farm and later conducted farming operations on his own account. He came to Le Mars to live in 1912, and was for a few years associated with Julius Schmidt in the drug store business. Of late years Mr. Edmond lived a retired life, looking after his farm interests and enjoying the autumn of a well spent life.

Mr. Redmond leaves to mourn his death, two brothers, M. B. Redmond, of Akron, two sisters, Miss Katherine Ann Redmond, a nephew, J. L. Redmond, of Akron, and a niece (actually cousin) Mrs. Mary C. Floyd, Union, Iowa.

A brother, M. W. Redmond, mayor of Akron, died a year ago.
