DEATH COMES TO FORMER RESIDENT HERE LAST WEEK

Mrs. Mary J. Redmond Came To County Wit Parents In Early Youth

There was made in these columns last week a brief mention of the death of Mrs. Mary J. Redmond, a former well known resident of Akron, who passed away at St. Vincent’s hospital in Sioux City, Iowa, on Wednesday, December 15 1943, after an illness of about a year, at the age of 65 years, 9 months, and 22 days.

Mary J. Gibbons, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Michael Gibbons, was born February 23, 1877, at Galena, Illinois, and when a child came to Plymouth County, and lived near Akron. On May 15, 1907, she was united in marriage with Michael W. Redmond in Akron. There came to bless this union one son, James Redmond, now of Sioux City.

Her husband, a well known real estate and insurance man of Akron for many years and at one time mayor of the town, preceded her in death on April 27, 1930. She has made her home in Sioux City the past few years.

Left to mourn her departure is one son, James of Sioux City; a sister, Mrs. Charles Buright, and two brothers, Lawrence and Patrick Gibbons, of Akron, and four grandchildren. A devoted wife and mother, a fine neighbor, she was revered by a host of friends for her splendid virtues and character.

Funeral services were held in the Cathedral of this Epiphany, in Sioux City, last Friday morning at 9:00 o’clock, the Rev. Fr. T. M. Parle officiating. A number of Akron relatives and friends attended the funeral services and also the burial in the Catholic cemetery here beside her husband.
