OBITUARY

Mention was made in these columns last week of the death of Mrs. Martin Gibbons, on Wednesday evening, May 26, 1915, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. M. W. Redmond, of heart trouble and complications, aged 54 years, 8 months, and days.

Mary Jane Clark was born September 22, 1857, at Scales Mound, Illinois. She was married April 8, 1875, to Martin Gibbons at Apple River, Illinois. They moved to a farm near Remsen, Plymouth County, Iowa, in the spring of 1881, and later moved to a farm near Hawarden. A few years afterward they located on a farm east of Akron and have resided in this locality for the past seventeen years, but retired from active farm life last winter.

Four children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Gibbons—Patrick Gibbons, Mrs. M. W. Redmond, Lawrence Gibbons, and Chas. Burnight, all of this vicinity, who, with bereaved hsband, mourn the loss of a kind and devoted wife and mother. Mrs. Gibbons was a devout member of the Catholic Church, a sympathetic and helpful neighbor and friend. She is also survived by one brother and two sisters, John Clark of Sioux City, Mrs. Kate Hennessy of Le Mars and Mrs. Lizzie Muth of McNally, Ia., all of whom were present at the funeral.

Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Father D. K. Hurley in the Church of St. Patrick last Friday morning at 10 o’clock, there being a large assemblage of friends from this vicinity and surrounding towns. Interment was made in the Akron Catholic cemetery.

Relatives of the family who came from a distance to attend the funeral were Mr. and Mr. John Clark, Mr. Thos. S. O’Den, Mr. and Mrs. Parnell O’Den and daughter, Kathryn, of Sioux City; Mrs. Kate Hennessy and son, Ed., of Le Mars; Mrs. Lizzie Muth aand sons, Jos and Ed, of McNally, Iowa; John and Jacob Geohagan, of Beresford, S. D.; J. B. Redmond, of Le Mars; Mr. and Mrs. M. B. Redmond, of near Brunsville.
