MRS. LYDIA VARENHORST FUNERAL SERVICE IS HELD MONDAY MORNING

Funeral services for Mrs. Lydia Varenhorst, 74, lifelong Plymouth County resident, were held at 9:30 a.m. Monday at the First Methodist church. Rev. R. V. Gildner officiated and burial was in the city cemetery under the direction of Mauer’s funeral home.

Mrs. Varenhorst died Friday afternoon at Sacred Heart hospital, where she had been admitted last Wednesday after fracturing a hip in a fall in the yard at her residence at 430 7th Ave. SE.

Lydia Michael, daughter of the late Benedict H. and Eva Michael, was born June 12, 1885, in Johnson Township near Le Mars. Her marriage to Frank B. Varenhorst Sr. took place Nov. 28, 1912, in Sioux City. She had been a resident of Le Mars since 1924.

Surviving are her husband; three sons, Benedict M. of Ottumwa, Frank B. Jr. of Le Mars and LaVerne C. of Storm Lake; seven grandchildren and two sisters, Mrs. Heny (Margaret) Peterson of rural Le Mars and Miss Agnes Michael of Le Mars.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a daughter.
