Sylvia Konopasek, 80, of Remsen, died suddenly Friday, Sept. 16, 2016 at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City.
Sylvia was born July 14, 1936 at Seattle, Washington, the daughter of Bill and Hazel (Bolton) Hoyt. She was educated at Union Consolidate School in Union Township, rural Remsen, graduating in 1954. She then attended Wayne State College graduating in 1956. She then went on to University of Colorado Greeley graduating in 1958 with a degree in special education. She began teaching in Norfolk, Nebraska.
She met Don Konopasek at King's Ballroom in Norfolk. On Aug. 17, 1958 she married him at Union Presbyterian Church. The couple made their home in Council Bluffs, where she was a teacher. In the spring of 1960 the couple moved back to Union Township to farm. In June 1996 they moved into Remsen.
She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church ELCA, 4-H, Plymouth County Fair Committee, Pork Producers, Plymouth County Historical Museum and Stable Mates.
She loved spending time with her family and she enjoyed traveling, golf and bowling with friends.
She will be lovingly remembered by, her husband Donald of Remsen; two sons, Monte (Mary) Konopasek of Remsen and Myles (Cindy) Konopasek of Yankton, South Dakota; five grandchildren, Adam (Gail) Konopasek, Meggan (Eli) Musselman, Brad (Lisa) Konopasek, Cassi Konopasek and Drew Konopasek; and eight great-grandchildren, Marcus, Preston, Payten, William, Micah, Madelynn, Brayden and Sophia.
She was preceeded in death by her parents.
Funeral Service will be 10:30 a.m., Tuesday at St. Paul Lutheran Church ELCA in Remsen, with Pastor Neil Peck CLS officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Cemetery in Le Mars. Visitation with family present will be from 5-8 p.m. today (Monday), with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Fisch Funeral Home & Monument in Remsen. Visitation will resume from 9:30 a.m. until service time Tuesday at the church.
Casket bearers will be Adam, Brad and Marcus Konopasek, Meggan Musselman, Cassi and Drew Konopasek.
Services have been entrusted to Fisch Funeral Home & Monument in Remsen.
