FORMER LOCAL RESIDENT DIES
Last Rites Will Be Held Thursday For Mrs. George Ahrens
A former local resident, Mrs. George W. Ahrens, of Hawarden, passed away in a Sioux City hospital Sunday, May 21, after an illness of eight months, aged 50 years.
Mrs. Ahrens, the former Helen N. Wynia, was born Sept. 3, 1916, at Westfield, Iowa, and was married to George W. Ahrens October 17, 1934, at Yankton, S. D. She had been employed at the Otis Radio Shop in Hawarden for 12 years prior to her illness.
Survivors include the widower; two sons, Marvin, who is serving with the Air Force in Hawaii, and Robert of Elk Point; three daughters, Mrs. Ronald M. (Betty) Pedersen of Sioux City, Mrs. Gordon (Donna) Scheellerman, of Hawarden and Linda at home; three brothers, Raymond of Sioux City, Melvin of Santa Ana, Calif., and Frank of Santa Ana, Calif.; four sisters, Mrs. Marie Meredith of Los Altos, Calif., Mrs. Dollie Bonnema of Le Mars, Iowa, Mrs. Bertha Wiese of Merrill, Iowa, and Mrs. Clara Aer of Fredericksburg, Iowa, and 16 grandchildren.
Funeral services were held this (Thursday) at 2:00 p.m., at the Big Springs Baptist Church, Rev. Harry Nelson officiating. Burial in Akron Riverside cemetery under direction of the Schroeder Funeral Home, of Akron.
