Emery R. Tucker, 75, Muscle Shoals, Ala., former Akron resident, died March 16, 1987 at his home after a long illness.
Mr. Tucker was born March 29, 1911 in Plymouth county to W. P. and Cora Tucker. He married Jean Coleman Jan. 12, 1939 at Blue Earth. Minn. The couple farmed near Akron until 1963 when they moved to Muscle Shoals. He was a bridge tender for Southern Railway and retired after 15 years of service.
Emery was an avid sports fan and .played semi-pro baseball with local teams. He also served a number of years on the Akron school board. He was a member of the First Baptist church in Florence, Ala., the Muscle Shoals Senior Citizen's center and the Second Milers Southern Railway Supper club.
Funeral services were held Thursday, March 19 at the Spry funeral chapel with Rev. Dr. Gerald Lord officiating. Burial was in the Colbert Memorial Gardens.
Pall bearers were Sam Hall, Buddy Bennett, R. E. Fanning and his three grandsons, James, Michael and Charles Montgomery.
Survivors include his wife, Jean of Muscle Shoals; a son, Thomas James Tucker of Byron, Ga.; a daughter, Sandra Kay Tucker of Atlanta, Ga.; two brothers, Robert and Ellis, both of Akron; and four sisters, Grace Blankenburg of Benson, Ariz., Ruby Brown and Dorothy Brown, both of Akron, and Virginia Swift of Tombstone, Ariz.; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
