Attorney Roland Bedell Dead at 74 in Michigan
Roland R. Bedell, 74, longtime LeMars attorney, died Wednesday night (Jan 23, 1974), at Dearborn Heights, Mich., where the family had moved four years ago.
Friends in LeMars were informed by telephone calls from Mr. Bedell’s son, Tom, at Dearborn Heights.
Graveside rites tentatively are scheduled late Saturday afternoon at LeMars Memorial cemetery under the direction of Mauer’s Funeral Home.
The family requests memorials to either the March of Dimes or the emphysema foundation.
Before leaving LeMars in the fall of 1969, Mr. Bedell was honored by the Plymouth County Bar Assn. for his long years of service as a lawyer here.
He was born Oct. 28, 1899, in LeMars, the son of Edgar Thomas Bedell and Luella Robinson Bedell.
Mr. Bedell was graduated in 1917 from LeMars high school and in 1922 from Morningside College, Sioux City, where he earned a B.A. degree.
He received his law degree in 1925 from the University of Iowa.
His marriage to Adele Starzl took place in 1935 at Emmetsburg. She preceded him in death.
Mr. Bedell had been active in many LeMars organizations, including American Legion, Junior Chamber of Commerce, LeMars Chamber of Commerce past director, LeMars Country Club, library board, Republican party, various legal associations, past president LeMars Rotary Club, past mast of AF & AM past commander of York rite 57 and Knights Templar.
In the early 1930’s he had served as LeMars city attorney.
Survivors include his wife, Jeanne of 6940 Amboy, Dearborn Heights, Mich., a daughter, Ruth, of Dearborn Heights; three sons, Edgar, an attorney at Dearborn Heights, Dr. Bruce Bedell, a physician in Sioux City, and Tom of Dearborn Heights; and several grandchildren.
