LeMars, Iowa – Vernon A. King, 93, of LeMars, died Thursday (Oct. 9, 1980) in a hospital at LeMars.
Services will be at 3 p.m. today in the Mauer Funeral Home at LeMars. The Rev. James Ransom will officiate. Burial will be in Plymouth Presbyterian Cemetery, rural LeMars.
Mr. King was born April 2, 1887, Plymouth County, rural Merrill and was a life long resident of Plymouth County.
He married Helen Brodie June 20, 1919, in LeMars. She died in 1946. He farmed until 1955 when he retired to LeMars.
Survivors include two sons, Ross H. of Sioux City and Robert V. of Denver, Colo.; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Vernon King was born April 2, 1887, on a farm 10 miles west of Merrill. He attended a rural school in Johnson township. He helped his father farm until he was 21 and began farming for himself.Then he homesteaded in northwest South Dakota for four years. Returning to Iowa, Vern continued to farm for many years. When he retired to Merrill, he worked for a time at Pilley’s Creamery and later was a janitor at Michalosky’s restaurant.
Mr. King has two sons and five grandchildren. He was 86 years old. He has resided at Brentwood since July 1971. Although he has lost his sight, his memory is excellent and he enjoys visitors very much.
