FORMER AKRON WOMAN CALLED BY DEATH IN WEST
Mrs. S. D. McClintock Spent Early Years Of Her Life In This Community
Old-time Akron residents will learn with sorrow of the passing of Mrs. Alva K. McClintock (Ida May Raish), which occurred at her home, 90 Hansen Avenue, Salem, Oregon, on November 1, 1940, following an extended illness. Mrs. McClintock had been in failing health the past six years and for six months had been confined to her bed most of the time.
She leaves to mourn her death her husband, A, K. McClintock; a son, Alfred J. McClintock, of San Francisco, Calif.; a daughter, Pauline (Mrs. V. D. Bain), of Salem, Ore., and four grandchildren, Barbara Lee and Gloria Ann McClintock and Ruth and Bobby Bain.
Ida Raish was born in Oshkosh, Wis., on April 21, 1874, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. N. Raish, and, with her parents, came at an early age to Elk Point, Dakota Territory.
A little later the family moved to Akron, Iowa, where the father was a prominent lumber merchant, and where his children attended the public school. After graduating from high school, the daughter entered the University of South Dakota at Vermillion, but after a short time returned home to care for her mother, who was seriously ill.
On August 25, 1897, Ida May Raish became the bride of Alva K. McClintock, son of a former Methodist pastor in Akron, the Rev. and Mrs. A. McClintock. Their first home was in Mason, Iowa, where both of their children were born. She was an active member of the Methodist church until the family moved to Weed, Calif., where they all affiliated with the Community church, which is under the Presbyterian board. She sang in church choirs wherever she lived from the time she was a girl in Akron until her failing health kept her from active participation in the church.
She was a woman of deep religious nature, of sterling character, patient through all life’s changing conditions and with people of every walk of life; a devoted wife and mother, a constant, true friend. Her kindly ministrations and thoughtfulness of others endeared her to her hosts of friends in every community where she lived.
Mrs. McClintock has one brother, John W. Raish, of Pierre, S. D. Her other brothers, who preceded her in death, were Henry, George, Edward and Arthur, all of whom were at one time Akron residents.
Funeral services were held in Salem, Ore., November 4, and interment was in Belcrest Memorial Park. Among the close friends attending the rites were Mrs. G. V. Ellis, her son, Hira Ellis, and Mrs. Ernest Richards (Myrtle Milner), all former Akron residents.—(Contributed by Stella McClintock Heywood, of Chico, Cal.)
