Jimmy Ritchie Loses Life In Fall Harvest Accident

Funeral services for Jimmy Don Ritchie, 26, lifelong Plymouth County resident, will be held Saturday. Rev. Lee R. Mentink will officiate at 11:30 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, rural Hinton. Burial will be in the church cemetery under direction of the Maurer Funeral Home in Le Mars.

The Le Mars man was dead on arrival Wednesday (Oct. 29, 1980) at mid-morning at Floyd Valley hospital in Le Mars, after a farm combine accident. He was working alone in a field at the farm of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Ritchie, about 12 miles southeast of Le Mars. His clothing became entangled in the machine auger. The Kingsley ambulance brought him to the Le Mars hospital.

Ritchie was born Aug. 27, 1954, in Sioux City to Joseph and Wilma Maass Ritchie. He graduated from Remsen-Union high school where he was active in vocal music. He was employed at Wells Dairy and was helping his father with harvest when the accident took place.

He was a member of Trinity Lutheran church.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents.

Survivors are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Ritchie rural Kingsley; a brother, Gerald Ritchie, North Liberty, Iowa; three sisters, Mrs. Le Roy (Donna) Mowry, Marshall, Mo., Mrs. Ed (Janice) Fix, Minot, N.D., and Sharon Ritchie, Le Mars; and his paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Homer Ritchie, Kingsley.
