Violet “Vi” Grosenheider, 79, of Le Mars passed away Tuesday, October 20, 2015 at Good Samaritan Society Le Mars. Funeral services will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, October 23, 2015 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Le Mars. Rev. Dr. Jean Ziettlow and Rev. Chris Meier will officiate.

Burial will follow at Resthaven Memory Gardens in Le Mars. Visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 22, 2015 at the Mauer – Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars. The family will be present from 4-7 p.m. There will also be one hour of visitation at the church prior to the funeral service on Friday.

Violet Mae Plueger was born on January 20, 1936 in Tescott, Kansas, the daughter of Rev. John H. and Esther (Hennigs-Harms) Plueger. She graduated from high school in Los Angeles, California and continued her education at Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa.

On February 17, 1954 Violet and Robert H. Grosenheider were united in marriage at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church (Preston Township), rural Akron, Iowa. Together Vi and Bob farmed in Plymouth County until 1972. They also owned and operated Carmen’s Dress Shop and Pretty Plus Women’s Clothing in downtown Le Mars until 1993. Following the clothing store, they were employed at Sunrise Villa and Highland Estates until their retirement in 2006.

Vi was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Le Mars. In earlier years, Vi was a Sunday School teacher and a choir director at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Preston Township. She was active in community events and was elected the first female president of the Le Mars Chamber of Commerce in 1976.

Vi was known for her beautiful smile, great sense of humor and wonderful singing voice. The family spent their weekends at West Lake Okoboji for more than 25 summers.

She will be lovingly remembered by her children, John Grosenheider and his wife, Barbara of Sioux Falls, S.D.; David Grosenheider and his wife, Robin, of Le Mars, IA; and Joel Grosenheider and his wife, Paula of Moville, IA; nine grandchildren, Jill and Mike Rudd of Columbus, OH, Joshua Grosenheider of Sioux Falls, S.D., Jeff and Jessa Grosenheider of Le Mars, IA, Zachary & Austin Grosenheider of Moville, IA, Heather and Dan Jenkins of Springfield, IL, Matt & Ginny Mousel of Sioux City, IA, Stacy Mousel of Sioux City, IA and Brenda Kutzler of Sloan IA; great-grandchildren, Billie Joe Kuztler, James, Jacob, and Jackson Jenkins, and Jordan Mousel.

Vi was preceded in death by her husband Bob; her mother and father; a sister, Mildred Plueger; her brother, Reverend Dr. Aaron Plueger; and a stepbrother, Elmer Harms.
