Paul Petersen Dies at Elkhorn. Rites Wednesday for Former Oyens Longtime Mayor, Business Man.
Funeral services were held Wednesday at Elkhorn, Iowa, for Paul Petersen, former businessman and mayor of Oyens, who died there Sunday at the age of 78 years.
Mr. Petersen left Oyens two months ago, planning to spend the winter at the Salem Old Folks’ Home at Elkhorn and to return to Oyens in the spring to resume his blacksmithing.
At the time of his departure he was in slightly failing health.
Mr. Petersen, native of Denmark, came to Oyens about 50 years ago and was in the blacksmithing business, also handles farm implements. For nearly 30 years he served the town as councilman and mayor. He was one of the town’s most progressive citizens.
