Note: His mother's first name is actually Amelia and her maiden name is Brinkman or Brinckmann. A family source has his year of birth as 1868 which seems more likely since he has a sister born in July of 1870.
August Ahrens Rites Wednesday
August Ahrens, 75 years old, a long time resident of Kingsley, died last Monday in the hospital in Le Mars, where he had been for the past two years.
Born October 20, 1870, in Kendall county, Ill., he moved with his family to Dexter, Iowa, in 1879. In 1883 he came to Kingsley where he has since resided. He was one of nine children, the son of Caroline and Henry Ahrens. The parents, seven brothers and one sister preceded him in death. A sister, Miss Minnie Ahrens, with whom he made his home for many years, died Sept. 21, 1940.
Surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Emma Riordan, of Correctionville, Ia., and Mrs. Carrie Maurer, of Kimball, South Dakota.
Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon from the Dickison funeral home, with Rev. M. L. Metcalf presiding. Burial was in the Kingsley cemetery.
