Richard Van Voorst
Richard Van Voorst, 71, Merrill, died Friday (Oct. 7, 1977) at home after a 2-month illness.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic church in Merrill. Rev. James Bruch will officiate. Burial will be at the Hillside cemetery in Merrill under the direction of Luken-Johnson funeral home at Le Mars. Rosary will be at 7:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Mr. Van Voorst was born Aug. 30, 1906, at Maurice to Richard and Ella Boone Van Voorst. He had lived most of his life in Le Mars and Merrill. His marriage to Margaret Bauler took place Nov. 29, 1958, at Merrill.
He was a plumber and operated Merrill Plumbing and Pump for 15 years until his retirement four years ago. The business place in Merrill will be closed Tuesday in his memory.
His first wife, Cleo Roberts, to whom he was married Feb. 4, 1928, died Nov. 15, 1947. He was a member of Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic church.
Survivors are his wife; a son, Alex Richard of Matlock; a daughter, Mrs. Rosemary Sams of Omaha; three step-sons, Harry Bauler of Le Mars, Charles Bauler of Ireton and Jack Bauler of Merrill; three step-daughters, Mrs. Jerry (Margaret) Covert of Humboldt, S. D. Mrs. Ray (Zelda) Sherlock of Le Mars and Mrs. Barbara Bornholtz of Buffalo, Wyo.; three brothers, John and Andrew, both of Le Mars, and Donald of Grand Rapids, Mich.; four sisters, Mrs. Jennie Dobbert of Seney, Mrs. Bernie (Minnie) Wallace of Truth or Consequences, N.M.; Mrs., Jack (Henrietta) Van Roekel of Hull and Mrs. Pete (Luella) Droog of Jenesen, Mich.; 38 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son Alfred, his first wife and a granddaughter.
