Death relieved Mrs. Mary Barthole, one of Remsen's oldest citizens, of many years of suffering last Sunday morning shortly before noon.

Mrs. Barthole was 85 years of age at the time of her death and half of her life was spent in this vicinity.

The funeral was held from St. Mary's church Tuesday Morning.

Mrs. Mary Barthole was born 85 years ago in the village of Mecklingburg, Canton Sterlitz, Luxemburg, and left her home to come to Canada 47 years ago. She found employment in Canada for two years after which she came to the United States,, settling in Peoria, Ill.
Shortly after arriving there she was married to John Barthole, then a resident of that city, and the couple continued to reside there until 1879, when they came to Remsen. They were accompanied here by Mr. Barthole's brother Charles. They worked on the farm for a few years and then purchased a farm four miles south of Remsen, now known as the L. H. Schulte place. Here they resided for 19 years, after which they retired and made their home in Remsen.

Mr. Barthole passed away in 1911, and (part of the message is unreadable) making her home whith her husband's brother, Charles, her only known relative.
