SUFFERS HEART ATTACK WHILE DRIVING CAR

Martin Arnt Vanderham, 70, Le Mars, died of an apparent heart attack while driving his car a mile west of Adaville Saturday afternoon, August 24. He had been on a fishing trip in the area.

Highway Patrolman Richard Helmers investigated. He said a companion, Clara Hoxsie, Le mars, was a passenger in the car and was able to stop the car. First at the scene were passersby, Dr. Mason, DDS, Akron, who gave mouth-to-mouth resuscitation and Art Coons, also of Akron.

The Luken-Johnson ambulance was called to the scene. Mr. Vanderham was taken to Floyd Valley hospital, Le mars, where he was pronounce dead on arrival by Dr. H. L. VanderStoep in abscence of dr. S. Lindell, county medical examiner.

Mr. Vanderham was born May 26, 1898, at rural Akron and had been a lifelong Plymouth county resident and in recent years had been living in Le Mars. His parents were the late Theodore D. and Margaret Ann Schlueter Vanderham.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Mauer Funeral Chapel with Rev. Milo Morris officiating. Burial was in Christ Lutheran Cemetery in Grant Township, rural Le Mars, under the direction of the Mauer Funeral Home.

Survivors are his son, LuVerne Vanderham, Bell, Calif.; a sister, Mrs. Emmett (Ollie) McGraw, Le Mars and two grandchildren, Jerry and Judy Vanderham.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Henry and a sister, Minnie and several infant brothers and sisters.
