Marie Vanderham

Mrs. Henry (Marie) Vanderham, 89, Akron, died Sunday (Oct. 28, 1984) in a Sioux City hospital of a brief illness.

Services were held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 30 in the Immanuel Lutheran church in Akron. The Rev. benard Nelson officiated. Organist was Carol Harris, and soloist, Mary Anderson.

Burial was in Riverside cemetery under the direction of the Schroeder funeral home of Akron. A prayer service was held at 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home with Rev. Marvin Mueller officiating.

Pallbearers were Robert Russell, Raymond Tapper, Leonard Klemme, albert Beeck, Jack Henrich, and Al Hummel.

Mrs. Vanderham, the former Marie Katherine Popken, was born Oct. 14, 1895, in Jever, Germany. She married Henry J. Vanderham Dec. 12, 1917, at Le Mars. The couple farmed east and southeast of Akron for many years except for four years when they farmed near Tea, S. D. They retired to Akron in February 1965. Mr. Vanderham died Feb. 11, 1965.

She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran church, Akron.

Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Lowell (Delores) Stinton of Akron, and Mrs. Madeline Vanderham of Sioux City; two sisters, Mrs Augusta Buehre, of Akron, and Mrs. Martha Molzen, of Le Mars; four grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her husband, and two sons.
