CHILD KILLED UNDER TRUCK
Rear Wheel Passes Over Breast of 4-year-old Son of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Neary, on Tuesday
Another tragedy that shook this community with sudden sorrow and plunged several homes into deepest mourning took place at about half past seven o'clock Tuesday morning, when the life of Earl, 4 year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Neary was on his way to the farm of his brother-in-law, W. B. Ross, about a mile north of town to haul in corn from the sheller, and his little boy was riding on the seat beside him. As they were descending the hill on the east side of Riverside Cemetery, the little fellow told his father that something had gotten in his eye and he began to rub it. Mr. Neary told him to wait until they reached the bottom of the hill and he would get the offending particle out of his eye, but all at once the child fell or stepped off the side of the car. His father grabbed for him but missed getting a hold. at the same time he either turned the steering wheel to the right or the car swerved from striking a rut, so that the rear wheel of the truck passed over the little boy's breast. Mr. Neary picked him up and drove as rapidly as possible to the Akron hospital, only a short distance back but by the time they reached there the child's life was practically extinct and the little soul had returnig to Him who gave it.
Earl was a bright and manly little chap and it was his delight to accompany his father wherever he went. His sudden death comes as a hard blow to the parents and other near relatives, who have the heartfelt sympathy of the entire community in their deep grief.
Funeral services were held yesterday forenoon in St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Father E. F. Casey conducting the same. There was a large assemblage of sympathizing friends. Interment was in the Catholic cemetery.
