DEATH COMES TO ESTEEMED AKRON WOMAN SATURDAY

Last Rites Are Held Tuesday Morning For Mrs. Bess Foley

The many friends of Mrs. Bess Foley, of Akron, learned with sorrow and regret that she had passed away at the Sacred Heart Hospital in Le Mars early Saturday morning, March 17, 1951, after about a year’s illness of a heart ailment, at the age of 58 years, 1 month and 17 days. She had been a medical patient in hospitals at Sioux City and Rochester, Minn., before entering the hospital at Le Mars for further treatment.

Bess Carel, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Carel, was born January 28, 1893, in Le Mars, where she received her early education. After graduating from Le Mars High School, she attended Clark College, in Dubuque, Iowa, and then taught in the rural schools of Plymouth county for a number of years.

On March 7, 1935, she was united in marriage with Patrick A. Foley, of Akron. They did considerable traveling after their marriage, their trips including one to-the ancestral country of Ireland, to Alaska, and visits in California and at southern points, in which they found mutual enjoyment.

Her husband preceded her n death on April 6, 1939.

Mrs. Foley continued to make her home in Akron. She was a devout member and took an active part in the work of her church, as well as in the social life of the community. Her friendly and pleasant personality, her thoughtful kindness and generous impulses gained for her a great many firm and lasting friendships among both old and young, by whom she will be sincerely missed and mourned.

She is survived by one brother, Leo W. Carel, of Kingsley, Iowa; two nieces and one nephew, Mrs. Maxine Borges, of Miami, Florida, and Bonita and Kenneth Carel, of Kingsley, as well as a number of relatives here.

Funeral services were held here at 9:30 o’clock Tuesday morning in St. Patrick’s Catholic church, Rev. Father Chas. Ernst officiating at the requiem high mass. Pall bearers were W. L. Mitchell, D. G. Ross, Dr. Geo. Mattison, Edmund Heider, Steve Gant and Leonard Lamoureux. Interment was beside her husband in the Catholic cemetery.

Friends from out of town attending the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Gale, Blaise Gale, and J. J. Arkin, of Sioux City. Relatives and friends also came from Le Mars.
