JOHN BENSLEY PASSES DIVIDE
POPULAR RAILROAD MAN DIES SUDDENLY FOLLOWING ATTACK OF HEART FAILURE
John Bensley, well known resident of Le Mars for the past twenty-one years, died Sunday at his home, 36 Third Avenue NE., following a heart attack. His death came as a great shock to his family and friends as the condition of his health, although not of the best, had not occasioned thoughts of alarm.
Mr. Bensley had suffered from throat trouble for the past four years, ever since undergoing an operation for tonsilitis. His condition had required frequent hospitalization and medical treatment but in spite of his affliction he remained almost constantly at his duties as section foreman at this point for the Illinois Central Railroad company.
Mr. Bensley was in Chicago last week for treatment at the hospital maintained by the company.
John Riley Bensley was born July 26, 1875, in Cumberland county, Illinois, where he passed his boyhood days. When a young man he came to Iowa and prior to locating in Le Mars lived in Cherokee, Cleghorn and Omaha. Coming to Le Mars over twenty years ago, he lived here the remainder of his life. He was married at Council Bluffs, June 15, 1901, to Miss Bertha Ellen McIntosh.
He leaves to mourn his death his wife, four daughters and one son, Mrs., Farrell Kelly, Peterson, Iowa; Mrs. Carl Schumacher, of this city, Della, Melvin and Geneva, at home. There are two grandchildren. He is also survived by two sisters and four brothers, Mrs. Dell Huff, Cherokee; Mrs. Lena Burch, of Chicago; Claud Bensley, of Cherokee; Wesley, Lewis and Peter Bensley, of Iroquois, S. D.
Mr. Bensley was a member of the Odd Fellows, the Eagles and the woodmen orders.
Mr. Bensley was a fine citizen, well liked by all with whom he had business and social relations. He was open hearted and generous, a loving husband and father and enjoyed popularity among a large acquaintance.
The last rites will be held Wednesday at 2 o'clock at the First Baptist church, Rev. T. P. Potter officiating, and interment made in the city cemetery.
