MRS. VIOLA GRIER

Mrs. Viola Browning Grier of 321 1st Ave. S. E., passed away at the Sacred Heart Hospital in LeMars, Wednesday, June 14, after a sickness of five months. She was 93 years old.

Viola Browning Grier was born on January 31, 1857, at Dewitt, Ia., the daughter of Hezekia Browning and Esabell Nevelle Browning. On October 12, 1877, she was married to Thomas W. Grier at Dewitt.

They lived in Dewitt for a while and then moved to Wall Lake, Ia., where she and her husband homesteaded. Later they came to Kingsley where they farmed and then moved to town. In 1945, Mrs. Grier moved to LeMars and made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Frank Stamp.

Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Ed DeVos of Oakland, Calif., Mrs. Alice Chapman of Sioux City, and Mrs. Frank Stamp of LeMars; one son, Robert Grier of Anton, Ia.; 12 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild. Mrs. DeVos of Oakland was here to see her mother and had just returned to her home in California.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1933, and four daughters.

Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon, June 16, at 2:00 p.m. at Mauer’s funeral home with Rev. H. V. Bartz officiating. Burial will be in the Kingsley City cemetery. Mauer’s funeral home is in charge of arrangements.
