DEATH SUMMONS AN ESTEEMED FORMER AKRON RESIDENT

Rites Held Tuesday In Sioux City For Mrs. F. W. Burnett

Mrs. Frances E. Burnett, an early day resident of Akron, passed away in a Sioux City hospital Saturday, August 13, 1955, on her 90th birthday, after an extended illness.

Frances Estella Kennedy, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James F. Kennedy, was born August 13, 1865, at Freeport, Ill. After the close of the Civil War, in which her father served, the family moved to Charles City, Iowa. Here she was united in marriage with Fred W. Burnett, who was employed as a printer in the office of the Charles City Intelligencer. Eleven years later, about 1895, Mr. and Mrs. Burnett moved to Akron, he taking a position as clerk in the general store of his wife's father, J. F. Kennedy.

Mr. and Mrs. Burnett celebrated their golden wedding anniversary here in 1934. Mr. Burnett passed away in 1950, after which she went to Sioux City to reside with her daughters, Mrs. Frank Pearson and Mrs. Paul Weisgerber, of Sioux City.

Mrs. Burnett was a member of the Christian church of Akron, and of the Womens' RElief Corps here for many years. She was held in high esteem as a kind and helpful friend and neighbor, and her devotion to family and home was outstanding.

Survivors in addition to the two daughters in Sioux City are another daughter, Mrs. Arnold Gunderson, of Elk Point, S D.; a son, W. F. Burnett, of Raymond, Wash.; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at the W. Harry Christy funeral home in Sioux City, Rev. Lawrence Carlton, of Riverside Methodist church, officiating. Pallbearers were Clyde Gunderson and Earl Bihlmeyer, of Elk P:oint, and Oney Winkoop, Max O. Pollock, A. Schneiders and Joe Schneiders, of Sioux City. Interment was in Memorial Park cemetery there.
