Popular Citizen Succumbs To Long Illness
Ross Christy, 64, resident of Le Mars the past twelve years, died Tuesday at the home of his sister-in-law, Mrs. E. A. Burkeen, in Sioux City. Mr. Christy had been in failing health for the last year due to heart attacks.
He was born in Sioux City January 6, 1877, and on attaining manhood was employed as pressman in Vermillion and Sioux City printing offices.
While living in Le Mars he conducted an oil station on First Street NE.
His wife, who before her marriage was Maude Butler of Le Mars, died last September.
He is survived by three sisters, Mrs. Harry Wright of Hollywood, Calif., Mrs. Etta Sturges of Dunlap, Iow and Mrs. Irma Shurtliffe of Beresford, S. D.
The funeral services were held Thursday afternoon in the Mauer Chapel, Rev. S. A. Jones of the First Baptist Church officiating, and interment made in the city cemetery.
The pallbearers were John Hart, H. C. Hansen, Arnold Patterson, Fay Terpenning, Henry Thompson and J. D. Tindall.
Among relatives and friends from out of town at the funeral were, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Burkeen, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Haight, Mrs. J. W. Baker, Mrs. Wm. Seaton, Mr. and Mrs. George Butler of Sioux City, Mr. and Mrs. Will Butler of Madison, S. D.
Mr. Christy was a good citizen, a pleasant companion and an accommodating neighbor and made friends wherever he lived.
He was interested in outdoor sports and in his youth was a baseball player. While living in Le Mars he was manager of the Le Mars Orioles ball team for a time.
