The funeral was held from the first M. E. Church on Sunday afternoon conducted by Rev. G. T. Whitfield. The large church was filled by old friend and neighbors of the deceased and the pastor paid an eloquent tribute to his memory.
The pallbearers were old frienfds and fellow workment of the deceased. They were Ed Atler, Dan Hammond, John Thompson, George Gee, A. Sexton and M. Sutherland.
He was born at Canada, in 1848, and made his home there for about 30 years coming to Le Mars in 1878. He was united in marriage with Miss Mary Atkin in 1866 and nine children were born to them and with the sorrowing wife survive him.
The are John, Harley, George, Roy, William, Blanche and Belle all of this city, and Mrs. Ross Christy, of Sioux City, and Frank Butler, of Goodwin, Neb. All of the children were here to attend the funeral.
He was engaged in the horse business for himself for the first two or three years that he lived in Le Mars. For the past eighteen years he has been employed by the Pew Implement company.
He was a great lover of horses and it always distressed him to see anyone abuse a horse and he used to say that he could tell the character of a man by the manner in which he treated his horses. He was a most faithful employee and gave faithful adherence and loyal friend and neighbor and will be greatly missed by every one in Le Mars.
