June Heeren, 81, of rural Akron passed away Saturday, May 5, 2012 at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 9, 2012 at Union Creek Lutheran Church with Pastor Carla Nelson officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Visitations with the family present will be after 5:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 8, 2012 at the Union Creek Lutheran Church with a 7:00 p.m. Prayer Service Tuesday evening at the church. Arrangements are with the Carlsen Funeral Home-Schroeder Chapel of Akron.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Derek Heeren, Dustin Heeren, Matthew Heeren, Ethan Heeren, Austin Willer, and Chet Willer. Honorary casket bearers will be her granddaughters, Wynette Campbell, Paige Chapman, Tina Beal, Tawnia Allyn, Bonnie Heeren, Heather Heeren, Jessica Jacobson, Lindsay Heeren, and Kelsey Heeren.

June Mahalath Moir was born May 12, 1930 in Akron, Iowa to Carl and MayBelle (Simmons) Moir. She attended school in Akron and graduated from Akron High School in 1948. June was united in marriage to Raymond Heeren on January 1, 1950 at Union Creek Lutheran Church. June and Ray were blessed with 4 children: Steven, Rob, Janet, and Mark. June and Ray farmed and raised livestock in Union County, South Dakota for over 50 years. During their retirement years, they continued to live on the farm.

June’s faith and church was always an important part of her life. She was an active member of Union Creek Lutheran Church; having participated in W.E.L.C.A. and volunteered for many church activities. She enjoyed quilting, raising horses and enjoyed the “cheerful neighbors” group. Her greatest joy in life was her family.

Survivors include her husband of 61 years, Raymond of Akron; 3 children, Rob Heeren and his wife Deb, Janet Willer and her husband Grayling, and Mark Heeren and his wife Michelle; a daughter-in-law, Lillian Heeren all of rural Akron; 15 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren; 2 brothers-in-law, Kervyn and Joanne Heeren of Akron and Verne and Marilyn Heeren of Akron; and several nieces and nephews.

June was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and MayBelle (Simmons) Moir; a son, Steven Heeren on May 16, 2010; a brother, Ronald Moir; and a sister, Lois (Victor) Clark. ©
