Charleen Marie "Char" Hilterbrand, 75, formerly of Des Moines and Norwalk, passed from this life on Wednesday, February 13, 2013, at Mercy Hospice in Johnston. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, February 16, at Iles Funeral Homes, Westover Chapel in Des Moines. Burial will follow at Glendale Cemetery in Des Moines.Char was born on June 6, 1937, in Le Mars, Iowa to Leo Lee and Minnie Margaret (Steen) Bishop. She was a 1955 graduate of Le Mars High School. On May 3, 1963, Char was united in marriage to Robert Austin "Bob" Hilterbrand in Le Mars, and their marriage was blessed with two daughters. In addition to raising her daughters, Char was also employed as a secretary with Windsor Wood Windows in West Des Moines and Principal Financial Group, until her retirement in 1994. She was a member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church. Char enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, traveling, and playing cards and penny slots.She is survived and lovingly remembered by her husband of nearly 50 years, Bob Hilterbrand of Urbandale; daughters, Lori (Hunt) Paul of Middleburg, FL and Kelley (Jon) Stahl of Urbandale; and four grandchildren, Dylan and Rachel Paul, and Brandon and Katie Stahl. Char was preceded into eternal life by her parents; sister, Donna Gundel; and one granddaughter, Emily Stahl.The family will greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, February 15, at the funeral home.Memorial contributions may be made to either Mercy Hospice in Johnston or Gloria Dei Lutheran Church.
